Principal Powell has spent more than 21 years in education, including 16 years as a classroom teacher before moving into school leadership. She comes from a family of educators! She studied Elementary Education at Pacific Lutheran University, earned her Master of Education in Reading Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University, and completed her Principal Certification at Western Governors University. She also holds endorsements in Reading and Earth Science.

She is passionate about creating a welcoming school where students feel safe, connected, and excited to learn. One of her favorite parts of the school culture is the House System, and she is especially proud to cheer for Nukumori House with a big “Fly Dragons Fly!” She is dedicated to keeping student learning and growth at the heart of every decision.

When she is not at school, Principal Powell loves spending time with her husband, their three children, and the family’s three dogs. She enjoys jeeping, watching football, and going on adventures both big and small. She values laughter, connection, and time spent making memories with the people she loves most.

Principal Perspectives

The Bremerton School District kicked off a new video series for the 2025-26 school year, highlighting the perspectives of our school principals. 🎬 Each week via the District's Facebook and Instagram pages, our community gets an inside look at what makes our schools special, straight from the principals themselves.

We invite you to view Ms. Powell’s latest Principal Perspective video.  You can view all of our Principal Perspective videos on the District's YouTube channel!

2/10/26: In this week’s Principal Perspective video, West Hills STEM Academy Principal Kimberly Powell highlights how students and staff at West Hills STEM Academy come together to eat in their House Club Houses – creating daily opportunities for connection, belonging, and problem-solving across grade levels.

With the house System (In place at Kitsap Lake, West Hills & Crownhill), every student and staff member is “sorted” into a “house”—a smaller community that fosters belonging, teamwork, leadership, and positive school culture.

10/16/25:  For our first video in the series, we're thrilled to have Kimberly Powell, Principal of West Hills STEM Academy (WHSA), sharing one thing she really wants the community to know about WHSA!
