February 2025

Dear Families,

February brought some unexpected snow days ❄️ that disrupted our schedule, but our students and staff have done a great job getting back into routine and making the most of our time together 📚. As we move forward, we’re focusing on spreading kindness 💙 throughout our school—whether through small acts of appreciation, supporting one another, or celebrating the friendships that make our community strong 🤝. Thank you for your flexibility and commitment to learning! Let’s keep the momentum going with positivity and perseverance! 🚀

Counselor's Corner

This year, so far….

Classroom Lessons: 99

Small group sessions: 66

Individual sessions: 125

This semester, our school counseling program emphasized Bullying Prevention and Conflict Management Skills for students in grades K-5. Students learned to recognize bullying behaviors, discussed strategies to refuse bullying, and explored how to report incidents they experience or witness. Younger students focused on using “I-messages” to resolve conflicts peacefully.

Meanwhile, older students engaged in discussions about actions that can escalate or de-escalate conflict, as well as the significance of healthy friendships and setting boundaries.

Some students had the opportunity to participate in small groups where we learned about social skills, making and keeping friends, resiliency, and coping skills. Small groups run for 10 weeks and give students the chance to work on skills in a smaller setting.

Looking ahead to the upcoming semester, all students will be focusing on Self-Management Skills, Personal Safety, and dedicating time to College and Career Exploration! I am grateful for the team we have here at West Hills and it has been an honor to support the social/ emotional and academic needs of our students. I am looking forward to another semester of seeing our students reach their goals! -Ms. Clemmons

Student SEL Survey

Bremerton School District is committed to supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral health of students. The insights gathered from SEL surveys are invaluable to school staff, as they help to better understand students' emotional well-being and social interactions. This data plays a crucial role in creating supportive environments and targeted interventions that foster student success. This information will help schools and staff understand the needs of students at both the individual and school level.

Families who wish to opt out of the SEL survey, should contact their child's homeroom teacher or counselor to express this decision prior to 3/7/25. The teacher or counselor will guide them through the opt-out process and ensure the student is excluded from the survey. It is important for families to communicate their request before the survey is administered to ensure it is processed in time. Afterward, families will receive confirmation that the student will not participate in the survey.
